Exmoor Rotary: Charities

The money the club raises is given to a range of different charities, some local, some further afield. The charity which we support the most is the Children's Hospice South West based near Barnstaple and over the years we have raised over £160,000 for them.

TSUNAMI APPEAL

This appeal in 2005 generated more money in a shorter time than anything in Rotary's 100 years' history. Money raised in a few weeks was £6,896, mostly from donations and collecting boxes in Bampton, Oakford, and Dulverton. A very special event was the first Community Sunday Lunch.

Children's Hospice South West is a very special charity, supporting as it does children who are terminally ill and their parents. Since starting supporting CHSW some years ago, we have raised over £160,000 for them.

This is a Rotary incentive working towards the eradication of polio world-wide in conjunction with partner agencies such as UNICEF. Impossible you may think - but it has very nearly been achieved. There were 350,000 cases of polio worldwide in 1988, and fewer than 600 in 2001. But the last few countries are the most difficult to reach. More information.

ROTARY FOUNDATION

"The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to support the efforts of Rotary International in the fulfillment of the Object of Rotary, Rotary's mission, and the achievement of world understanding and peace through local, national, and international humanitarian, educational, and cultural programs." Polio Plus is one of Foundation's projects.

This is an initiative started by RIBI for Water-Aid in Tanzania. Over 2.4 billion people in the world are without access to safe water - help Rotary to give 21,000 people in Tanzania safe water.

Shelterbox info. SHELTERBOX

The club has now funded nearly 100 Shelterboxes. To find out more, click on the ShelterBox button on the left.

Aquabox info.

The club sent an Aquabox to the Sudan Darfur appeal. Aquaboxes provide safe drinking water and welfare aid items in the aftermath of man-made or natural disasters.

Calvert Trust Exmoor

The Calvert Trust has benefitted from money we have made from our involvement with Ironman. For more about this inspiring local organisation, see their web-site.
